ZONAMACO MÉXICO ARTE CONTEMPORÁNEO AND ZONAMACO DISEÑO
ANNOUNCE 2018 EDITION

February 7th-11th, 2018
Centro Citibanamex, Hall D, Mexico City

ZONAMACO, Latin America's leading art fair platform, will hold the 15th edition of ZONAMACO MÉXICO ARTE CONTEMPORÁNEO simultaneously with the 8th edition of ZONAMACO DISEÑO, on February 7th to 11th, 2018.
With more than 60 thousand visitors, ZONAMACO MÉXICO ARTE CONTEMPORÁNEO will gather over 120 international galleries with works by more than 2,000 artists through four specialized sections:

GENERAL SECTION
Selection committee: Stefania Bortolami (Bortolami, New York), Ben Loveless (Galerie Nordenhake, Stockholm/Berlin), Patricia Ortiz Monasterio (Galería OMR, Mexico City) and Fernando Mesta (House of Gaga, Mexico City).
The main section of the fair presents international leading galleries with pieces of the highest quality in painting, graphics, sculpture, installation, photography, video and new media, of the most representative contemporary artists in the global scene.
Participation in this section is through application and further acceptance by the selection committee.
NEW PROPOSALS
Curator: Humberto Moro (Guadalajara, 1982).
This section creates parameters to represent an emerging generation of artists and, further, to stimulate institutional behaviors and create work opportunities for young artists.
Humberto Moro's curatorial proposal deals with the relation between the work's bodies and the booth's concept and design.
For the second time, New Proposals will feature the SAMPLE exhibition space, counting on the thematic of “The post-truth era: fiction vs reality, alternative facts, fake identities, alter-egos, concealed realities, and dirty secrets.”

Participation in this section is through application and further acceptance by the curator.

ZONAMACO SUR
Curator: Kiki Mazzucchelli (São Paulo, 1972).
The 10th edition of ZONAMACO SUR is curated by Kiki Mazzucchelli, whose Logic of Materials proposal aims gathering works in which the articulation of different materials plays a prominent role in the construction of meaning. An emphasis on the formal configuration of objects or materials and the physical presence of artworks is present in these works. Nevertheless, the objects or materials chosen and/or the logic underlying the process of making are always imbued with the symbolic meanings they have in everyday life. Therefore, in spite of their seemingly prominent formal aspect, these works are invariably concerned with investigations into social and historical processes where discourse emerges from the way in which materials are used and manipulated.
Participation in this section is through direct invitation by the curator.
MODERN ART
Selection committee: Alejandra Yturbe (GAM, Mexico City), Mariana Pérez Amor (GAM, Mexico City) and Enrique Guerrero (Galería Enrique Guerrero, Mexico City).
In its sixth year, the section exhibits historical pieces of international artists, with an outlook of genres and emblematic works produced mainly during the first half of the twentieth century.
Participation in this section is through application and further acceptance by the selection committee.

ZONAMACO MÉXICO ARTE CONTEMPORÁNEO is held simultaneously with ZONAMACO DISEÑOwhich offers an exclusive opportunity to visit and acquire the most outstanding design proposals in Mexico City, that has become the very first city of the Americas to receive the title of World Design Capital® 2018 by the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design, as a model for other megacities around the world using design to ensure a more liveable city.

ZONAMACO DISEÑO
Curator: Cecilia León de la Barra (Mexico City, 1975).
ZONAMACO Diseño includes collectible and limited edition furniture, utilitarian and decorative objects produced during a period that spans from 1920 to the most recent trends.
Participation in ZONAMACO DISEÑO is through application and further acceptance by the curator.

ZONAMACO MÉXICO ARTE CONTEMPORÁNEO and ZONAMACO DISEÑO
will strengthen bridges among gallerists, institutions, collectors, specialized publishers and the general public. This enhancement will be carried into effect through a conference program with international guests, a structured section with specialized publications and editorials, a VIP program that promotes the constant presence of collectors within the fair, and the most extensive program of parallel activities with exhibitions throughout the most exceptional museums and galleries of the country.

Both fairs will be held from February 7th to 11th, 2018 in Mexico City, shaping the biggest meeting point of the most important international collectors of contemporary and modern art, as well as design objects, through the most prestigious and international-projected art platform in Mexico.
