Artist talk: Gregor Hildebrandt en conversación con Manuel Rocha Iturbide.
Los medios característicos del artista Gregor Hildebrandt son la cinta de cassette y el vinilo, de los que hace collage y ensambla en pinturas, esculturas e instalaciones aparentemente minimalistas pero latentes y románticas. La obra del artista y curador Manuel Rocha Iturbide utiliza el sonido como vehículo principal de expresión, es su columna vertebral. La mayor parte de estas obras utilizan distintos lenguajes artísticos que se entrecruzan e interactúan, dándole una dimensión temporal a la experiencia plástica.
Artist talk: Gregor Hildebrandt in conversation with Manuel Rocha Iturbide.
Gregor Hildebrandt's characteristic media are cassette tape and vinyl, which he collages and assembles into paintings, sculptures and installations that appear minimalist but latent and romantic. Manuel Rocha Iturbide's work uses sound as the main vehicle of expression; as a backbone. Most of these works use different artistic languages that intertwine and interact, giving a temporal dimension to the plastic experience.

Z.ONAMACO Diseño presenta: Hablando de diseño. Rob Giampietro en conversación con Mario Ballesteros.
La charla se centrará en cómo ha cambiado la percepción de lo que es el "buen diseño" o el "diseño valioso" desde los años cincuenta. ¿El diseño tiene que ser caro o exclusivo para ser considerado valioso? ¿En qué se diferencia el valor del diseño del arte? ¿Cuál es el valor de las exposiciones de diseño y cómo contribuyen a la práctica del diseño? Rob Giampietro es Director de Diseño del Museo de Arte Moderno (MoMA). Mario Ballesteros es Director y Curador de Archivo Diseño y Arquitectura.

The talk will focus on how the perception of what “good design” or “valuable design” has changed since the 1950s. Does design need to be expensive or exclusive to be considered valuable? How does the value of design differ from art? What is the value of design exhibitions and how do exhibitions contribute to the practice of design itself? Rob Giampietro is Director of Design at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA). Mario Ballesteros is Director and Chief Curator at Archivo Diseño y Arquitectura.

Glenn D. Lowry, Director del Museo de Arte Moderno de Nueva York, e Inés Katzenstein, Curadora de Arte Latinoamericano, conversarán sobre el proyecto de expansión del MoMA y sobre el Instituto de Investigación Patricia Phelps de Cisneros para el Estudio del Arte Latinoamericano, del cual Inés es directora. También hablarán sobre los próximos planes del MoMA para exhibir arte latinoamericano.

Glenn D. Lowry, Director of New York’s Museum of Modern Art, will discuss MoMA’s ongoing expansion project and will speak with Inés Katzenstein, Curator of Latin American Art, about the Patricia Phelps de Cisneros Research Institute for the Study of Art from Latin America, of which she is Director, and MoMA’s upcoming plans to display Latin American art.

Ruba Katrib, curadora principal del MoMA PS1 (Queens, Nueva York), en conversación con José Esparza Chong Cuy, curador de Nuevas Propuestas, sobre el rol del curador de un museo dentro y fuera de la institución. Tras trabajar durante seis años en el SculptureCentre de Queens como curadora adjunta, Katrib fue nombrada curadora del MoMa PS1, donde ha desarrollado exposiciones de artistas como Julia Phillips y Fernando Palma Rodríguez, mostrando su interés por un arte significativo y político.

Ruba Katrib, main curator of MoMA PS1 (Queens, New York), in conversation with José Esparza Chong Cuy, curator of New Proposals, about the role of the museum curator inside and outside the institution. After working for six years at the SculptureCentre in Queens as adjunct curator, Katrib was appointed curator at MoMa PS1, where she has developed exhibitions of artists such as Julia Phillips and Fernando Palma Rodríguez, showcasing her interest in art that is meaningful and political.

Lucien Shapiro Intention Labyrinth

A todos nos vendría bien un pequeño empujón para ayudar a manifestar todas las cosas que queremos que entren en nuestras vidas, o que cambien en el mundo. Intention Labyrinth es precisamente ese tipo de proyecto. Vestido con una de las máscaras reconocibles de Shapiro y muchas cadenas de metal que cuelgan de sus hombros y cubren todo su cuerpo, el artista está ansioso por liberar este peso. Lentamente las cadenas se despliegan, haciendo un camino en espiral lo suficientemente grueso como para que los espectadores puedan entrar.
Luego se invita a los espectadores de uno en uno a repetir una intención mientras siguen la espiral hasta el centro donde se encuentra Shapiro. Una vez que llegan al centro se les ofrece un regalo para recordarles la intención que repitieron mientras daban vueltas hacia el centro del laberinto.

We all could use a little push in helping manifest all of the things we want to come into our lives, or change in the world. The Intention Labyrinth is just that type of project. Dressed in one of Shapiro’s recognizable masks and many metal chains dangling from his shoulders and draping his entire body, the artista is eager to release this heavy weight. Slowly the chains unfold, making a spiral path thick enough for the viewers to enter. The viewers are then invited one at a time to repeat an intention while following the spiral to the center where Shapiro is. Once they arrive to the center they are offered a gift to remind them of the intention they repeated while circling towards the center of the labyrinth.

Construyendo su concepto sobre la tradición artística de usar el cuerpo como medio en el arte escénico y tomando como inspiración material la tradición latinoamericana de los "milagros" (encantos religiosos que representan las diferentes partes del cuerpo y por lo tanto generan la conexión entre el cuerpo y nuestros seres espirituales), We Always Carry Our Body cuestiona la relación entre el cuerpo, la mente y la psique y si es posible pensar en ellos como separados. A través de la participación del público en su interpretación casi meditativa, Dupont lleva su cuestionamiento universal e intemporal a nuestros tiempos contemporáneos.

Building its concept on the artistic tradition of using the body as a medium in performance art and taking material inspiration from the Latin American tradition of ‘milagros’ (religious charms that depict the different body parts and thus physicalise the connecting between the body and our spiritual beings), We Always Carry Our Body questions the intertwined relationship between the body, the mind and the psyche and whether it’s even possible to think of them as separates. By the participation of the audiences into her almost meditative performance, Dupont carries her universal and timeless questioning into our contemporary times.
